Brooks Healing Center: From 2 Admissions to a $1M Turnaround

How technical SEO infrastructure, schema architecture, and AI visibility optimization helped transform a struggling treatment center into a profitable, growing program.
The Challenge
A treatment program on the verge of shutdown with no technical foundation to build on.
When Brooks Healing Center engaged our team, the program was in crisis. After two years of operation and an estimated $30,000 in paid media spend, the center had generated only 2 total digital admissions. The previous agency relationship had failed. Trust was broken. Funding was at risk, and the program was approaching a point where viability itself was in question.
The underlying problem went deeper than bad campaigns or weak content. The technical infrastructure was fundamentally broken. The site had competing schema implementations from multiple plugins creating duplicate and conflicting entity signals. Google couldn’t identify a single, verified organization — it was seeing fragmented entities pointing in different directions. Crawlability issues, unoptimized page performance, and missing structured data meant the site was virtually invisible to both traditional search engines and the emerging AI search platforms.
Before any content strategy or paid campaign could succeed, the technical foundation had to be rebuilt from scratch.
Before Engagement:
- 2 total digital admissions in 2 years of operation
- ~$30,000 spent on paid media with near-zero ROI
- 6 conflicting schema implementations creating duplicate
- No @graph/@id entity architecture — Google couldn’t verify
- No AI search presence — zero citations across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity
- Program funding at risk
Our Technical Approach
Rebuilding the technical infrastructure from the database up.
Our role in the Brooks engagement focused on the technical SEO infrastructure: schema architecture, site performance, crawlability, structured data implementation, and AI search visibility optimization. We worked in partnership with Impact Dynamics, who led content strategy, paid media coordination, and business development. Here’s what we built:
Phase 1: Schema Audit & Cleanup
The first priority was eliminating the chaos. We audited every source of structured data on the Brooks site and identified six separate problematic schema implementations injected by various plugins. These were creating duplicate Organization entities, using incorrect typing, and in one case referencing competitor URLs in knowsAbout properties. We documented every conflict, then systematically deleted all problematic snippets, establishing Rank Math’s custom schema editor as the single authoritative source for all structured data.
Phase 2: Connected Entity Architecture
With the slate clean, we built a comprehensive schema architecture using our @graph/@id methodology:
• MedicalBusiness entity:
Typed as MedicalBusiness (not generic Organization) with hasCredential properties reflecting Brooks’ Joint Commission accreditation and state licensure. This single entity, referenced by the same @id across every page, became the verified organizational anchor.
• Press page schema:
Built a CollectionPage schema with hasPart relationships connecting 10 distinct content entities including MedicalBusiness, PodcastEpisode, VideoObjects, and NewsArticles. Each entity linked back to the organization via publisher and author properties.
• Location page schemas:
Deployed MedicalClinic schemas for 5 service area pages (Nashville TN, Franklin TN, Louisville KY, Lexington KY, Atlanta GA), each with location-specific areaServed properties using correct Wikipedia sameAs URLs for entity disambiguation.
• Service schemas:
Structured data for core treatment programs (Residential Treatment, Medical Detox, Dual Diagnosis) with proper @graph/@id linking back to the parent MedicalBusiness entity.
Phase 3: Technical SEO Infrastructure
Beyond schema, we addressed the site’s core technical health:
• Crawlability audit and remediation — identified and resolved indexation issues, orphaned pages, and redirect chains
• Core Web Vitals optimization — script management, image optimization, and rendering path improvements
• Internal link architecture — established proper link equity flow from location pages to service pages to the homepage
• Robots.txt configuration — explicitly allowed major AI crawlers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, Microsoft, Meta) for AI search visibility
• FAQ schema implementation using Rank Math FAQ blocks — avoiding Elementor’s FAQ widget which produces malformed Unicode escape sequences
Phase 4: AI Search Visibility Optimization
With the technical foundation in place, we optimized for AI retrievability using our ARS™ (AI Readiness Score) methodology:
• Content structure optimization for summary-first paragraphs and citation-ready formatting
• Header alignment with real patient search queries
• Schema hierarchy scoring — the @graph architecture contributed up to 7 bonus ARS points
• Robots.txt AI crawler access configuration for maximum platform coverage
• Cross-platform visibility monitoring across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini
The Results
From invisible to cited. From 2 admissions to 41. From near-shutdown to $1M turnaround.
The technical infrastructure we built was the foundation that made everything else possible. Content strategy, paid media, and business development efforts by our partners at Impact Dynamics could only succeed because the site was now technically sound, properly structured, and visible to both search engines and AI platforms.
// BY THE NUMBERS
Results that speak for themeseves.
The Results
Organic Search Performance:
27+ admissions generated from organic search alone between July and December 2025. For a program that had generated only 2 total digital admissions in its first two years, this represented a complete transformation of the digital acquisition channel.
AI Search Visibility:
Brooks Healing Center achieved an AI Visibility Score of 35, with over 1,100 total mentions and 313 cited pages across AI platforms. The schema architecture built trust signals that AI systems used to consistently cite Brooks as an authoritative source for addiction treatment queries in the Tennessee market. Most recently attaining a scholarly SERP authority rating with Google.
Business Impact:
Combined with paid media performance coordinated by Impact Dynamics and Corecast Media (14+ additional admissions), the total digital admissions exceeded 41 in six months. The program achieved its first profitable year in its third year of operation, generating an estimated $1M financial turnaround. The program has since expanded to a full continuum of care, directly enabled by the consistent admissions volume the digital infrastructure now generates.

A Partnership Approach
This engagement was a joint effort. Impact Dynamics led content strategy, paid media coordination with Corecast Media, MAT positioning, payer strategy, and the full company rebrand. Slacker SEO led technical SEO infrastructure, schema architecture, performance optimization, and AI visibility implementation. The results reflect the combined impact of both teams working in alignment — which is exactly how the best outcomes happen.
When technical foundations are solid and content strategy is strong, the results compound. Neither alone would have produced these numbers. Together, they transformed a program that was on the verge of shutdown into a growing, profitable treatment center.
